Dr. Raymond H Jurgensen

In memory of Dr. Ray Jurgensen: 1930-2004

Dr. Raymond H. Jurgensen started Dr. Jurgensen & Associates (then Eye Care Professionals) in 1968 after completing his Doctorate from Illinois College of Optometry. As an optometrist for more than three decades, Dr. Ray volunteered his professional services regularly in the community, while looking after the needs of hundreds of his own patients. But most of all he was devoted to his family.
Born and raised on the south side of Chicago, Dr. Ray graduated from Calumet High School in 1948. After serving in the Korean War as a Coast Guard electrician, he received his Bachelor’s degree from Valparaiso University in 1958.

In 1968, Dr. Ray graduated from the Illinois College of Optometry and soon started his practice at the age of 38. Over the years, he donated countless hours to “Eyes for the Needy” and worked with Lombard schools providing eye exams and glasses for needy children. He also went on to be Board President of the TLC Laser Eye Centers.

More recently, Dr. Ray shared his practice with his daughter, Dr. Shari Jurgensen, an optometrist and also a graduate of the Illinois College of Optometry.

He was very active in the Boy Scouts for more than two decades. He was also a former member and director of the Lombard Chamber of Commerce and a past president and member of the Lombard Lions Club. He was a grand marshal of the Lombard Lilac Parade in 2002. In 1991, Lombard named him Man of the Year for his contributions to the community.

In addition to Dr. Shari Jurgensen, Dr. Ray is survived by his wife, Sharon and son, Paul. He will be dearly missed.
